“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men”. (Proverbs 22: 29 KJV)
READ: Genesis 41:1-46
Yesterday we saw the importance of being decisive in specific areas of our lives and how dedication to a certain course of action can yield proficiency. We also defined hard work as the chief key to success. We enumerated the four strategies of success which we coined the 4Ds: Decision, Dedication, Determination and Discipline and briefly looked at the first two yesterday.
Determination: It is firm resolve to take a particular course of action and let nothing stop one. If you simply go after that thing you want with all your capacity, strength and sagacity, faith, hope and stern tenacity, and lose all your terror of the opposition for it. If dogged and determined you beseech and beset it, then with the help of God you will get it.
Discipline: Character is molded by discipline. Train yourself to behave and work in a strictly controlled and regulated way. It takes determination and doggedness to rise to a height but it takes discipline to keep you there. Strauss Kahn, the former IMF boss, lost his career both politically and professionally due to mere indiscipline. Former United States President, Bill Clinton had all going for him, until his indiscipline in engaging in a casual affair brought him down and almost destroyed him. Somebody once commented that if given the choice to choose between vision and character, he would choose character. That underscores the importance of discipline in sustaining good character.
Lord, as I walk with You, mold me Lord!
