“But my people would not listen to me. They kept doing whatever they wanted, following the stubborn desires of their evil hearts. They went backward instead of forward.” (Jeremiah 7:24 NLT)

Christmas day, birthdays, anniversaries, wedding days and mission trips are some of the special days we celebrate in our lives. I feel that part of the fun in many of life’s events is built on the fact that we have time to anticipate them. They grow in value because we have months, days, hours and in some cases years to fantasize over them, thinking about the fun, challenges and excitement that they will bring.

For the typical Nigerian, Christmas day usually brings thoughts of new clothes, fried pastries, heaps of rice and fried chicken, visitation to friends and family, carols, parties, picnics, reunions and the like. I am not disregarding the importance of any of this but that should not be the focus or reason for the season.

For us as Christians, Christmas should be a day of great celebration when we should remember the Savior’s birthday and even as we enjoy all the things that Christmas brings let us not forget the Savior’s birthday in a lowly manger.

Father, thank You so much for sending your Son to die for us on the cross of Calvary. We pray that as we remember Him at Christmas, we would not take His death and resurrection for granted in Jesus’ name.

“Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness, to an opponent, tolerance, to a friend, your heart, to a customer, service, to all, charity, to every child, a good example. To yourself, respect. “ – Oren Arnold.
