“Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.” (Psalm 50.23 NKJV).

READ: Daniel 4.19-37

Nebuchadnezzar’s heart was lifted up. And God saw it. He secretly admired himself for building the Babylonian empire by his strength and for the “honour of his majesty.” In spite of God’s warning, He would not give God glory for his accomplishments. God had to take away His human dignity and faculty until Nebuchadnezzar was ready to acknowledge that, “the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.” God sees our hearts. He knows when we openly or secretly pat ourselves on the back for a feat well accomplished. He delights in the ability He has put in us to carry out and complete His assignments or plans. However, He would have us remember and acknowledge that the entire physical and mental effort engaged towards our successes is His. It is in His power to give or withhold all that we require to perform any endeavour – including life itself. He therefore deserves ALL the glory for working in and through us.

This realization will quicken our hearts to give Him praise than embrace it for ourselves. God has promised never to share His glory with anyone- Isaiah 42.8. This includes the glory due to Him for our achievements. God had to humble Nebuchadnezzar for a period of seven years to enable him understand the essence of giving him all the glory and He would humble those who walked in the pride of their own accolades.

What are those unique values that have attracted others to you? Are there things you have accomplished and being praised for – either by yourself or others? Return the glory for all belongs to God. Without Him, you will have nothing to celebrate.

Remember: “He who offers praise glorifies me, and to him that orders His conversation aright, I will show my salvation.” (Psalm 50.23)

Teach me Lord to always give You praise for everything about me.
