“In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son…” (Hebrews 1:1-2a NIV).
READ: Hebrews 1:1 – 4
God has not changed. He is still speaking to His people. In the Old Testament, God spoke many times and in a variety of ways. The prophets held sway in this time. God spoke through them. He also used other media to talk to His people. In the New Testament, at first, God spoke through a prophet called John the Baptist who was the fore-runner of the Lord Jesus Christ. Through Jesus, He made known His mind.
Now He speaks through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit knows the mind of our Father. The Holy Spirit is here to teach us all things. He will call to our memory the things Jesus said. He will also guide us into all truth, and will speak what He hears from the Father. Much more than this, He will tell you what is yet to come, and glorify Christ as He reveals Christ to us. God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible; through prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways.
Lord, cause the ears of my understanding to be enlightened that I may hear and respond to You when you speak, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
