MARCH 21 – COMMITMENT COMES THROUGH DETERMINATION

“Then Samuel said to all the people of Israel, “If you are really serious about wanting to return to the Lord, get rid of your foreign gods and your images of Ashtoreth. Determine to obey only the Lord; then he will rescue you from the Philistines.” So the Israelites got rid of their images of Baal and Ashtoreth and worshiped only the Lord.” (1 Samuel 7:3 NLT).

READ: 1 Samuel 7:3-5

Welcome to a beautiful and rewarding day. If you have made a decision to follow God, do not allow excuses, distractions or second thought deter you from achieving your goal.  Samuel asked the Israelites to get rid of the foreign gods (idols) in their lives.  Today, idols are more subtle than gods of wood and stone. Whatever holds first place in our lives or controls us becomes our god/idol.  Money, success, material goods, pride can be an idol if it takes the place of God in our lives. God alone is worthy of our service and worship and nothing must rival Him. If you have any “foreign gods” in your life, you need to ask God to help you dethrone them, making the true God your first priority. Commitment to God requires destroying whatever gets in the way of worshipping Him.  Like the Israelites, we have idols in our lives- greed, wrong priorities, jealousies, etc. As you rest your head tonight, completely remove these idols from your life.

Prayer:

Lord, I relinquish every form of idols in my life in Jesus’ name.
